Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, this is true. But the breakfast foods companies are producing these days are some of the most dangerous. Nutritionist everywhere have already started to warn the public about the many health hazards associated with the foods we’re putting in our bodies from these so called “breakfast food” makers. The bacon and eggs, the butter and toast, the cereals … they’re now proven responsible for everything from that groggy, low energy feeling that makes us drag our feet throughout the day, to irritable bowel syndrome, and even heart disease and cancer. Now of course, you’re all big boys and girls – so you don’t need me to tell you what to eat in the morning. Start your day by grabbing that bacon and egg McMuffin, or Dunkin’ Donut’s maple twist if you will, go ahead, fill your bellies. But for the love of god people, don’t go feeding that, or any of the following scientifically proven dangerous breakfast foods to your kids …

Fruit Juices

It can be hard to get your kids to down their breakfast with water. But remember, you’re the one in charge here. And when it comes to fruit juices like apple or orange, you’ve got to take a stand as they’re loaded with as much sugar as a can of pop. And you wouldn’t be giving your kids that, would you? You want your kids to be able to sit still in class, not all jittery and jumpy from a sugar overload. If you must give your kids some juice, make sure it’s freshly squeezed by your own hands, and not store bought that’s choke-full with additives.

Bacon

It just isn’t bacon and eggs without, well, the bacon. But did you know that according to recent studies, just 2 ounces of processed meat a day increases your risk of heart disease by an astonishing 42%?! So if you want your kids to have a heart attack by the time they’ve graduated college, then by all means, keep piling on the processed pork onto their pancakes.

Low Fat Pastries

Not too long ago, food manufactures realized they could pull a fast one on the public by packaging unhealthy snacks as healthy, because they were “low fat”. But there’s nothing wrong with fat in your diet. What is wrong however, is all the sugar that’s loaded into these pastries, the same sugars that can serious damage your digestive track, make you feel sluggish all day long, and even cause cognitive decay.

Doughnuts

So you hopefully got the “sugar is bad for you” message by now. No need to beat a dead horse. But if you think that’s all that’s wrong with your morning doughnut – think again. That sugary icing is caked on top of a processed white flour pastry. And processed white flour is all sorts of terrible for you, starting with raising your blood sugar levels, putting you at risk for a stroke – as well as increasing (instead of satiating) your hunger, which is why so many are obese.

Toast And Spread

Breakfast and toast go together like bread and butter, which, is usually how people have their toast. But if you’re the kind to spread slabs of jelly or jam on it, you’ve essentially created nothing but a carb bomb for yourself. A meal of no value to your body’s needs. If you must have your toast, make it whole grain to avoid the processed white flour mentioned from before. As well, spread some egg or avocado on it to give your body the protein and healthy fats it needs to get you through the day.

Coffee

Now before you go quitting on us here – as coffee’s been getting a good rap in the press as of late – we want to just make sure that’s not all you’re starting your day with (as many do). Because if a cup of Joe is all you’re downing, you’re essentially getting the majority of calories your body needs, but without any of the nutritional benefits. Plus, all that caffeine is going to do nothing but give you a blast of energy, then leave you with jitters for the rest of the day.

Sugary Cereals

Those sneaky, deceitful, crooked corporations … they know how hard it is to drag your kid down the cereal aisle without a fuss when they’ve gone ahead and plastered your kid’s favorite TV characters all over their bright colorful boxes. But beware, the amount of sugar in them is literally more than recommend monthly limit! In fact, it’s in your kid’s best interest to never eat any refined sugars again. But if you must pick up some cereal, make sure the box says it has less than 10 grams of sugar on it.

Breakfast Sandwiches

We hate to tell you to rule out all breakfast sandwiches, especially when they’re oh so tasty. But just know that every time you scarf one down, you’re getting a pre-made carb container, loaded with sodium and saturated fats that have absolutely zero nutritional value. And when you start your day with no nutrition, you’re actually not starting at zero, but at a negative as your body will start to look for food in itself. And it’ll look to not only your fat stores, but muscles as well. Something to consider if you workout and want to keep the gains you trained so hard to make.

Pre Made Smoothies

When it comes to smoothies, the best ones are those you make yourself. For no one in their right mind would ever put all the sugar and additives the store bought ones contain. They’re not only designed for your taste buds instead of your health, but you’re paying an incredible premium for something that’s not even good for you.

Pancakes with Syrup

We know, we know … first bacon, now this breakfast staple. What’s next, right? Well by now the dangers of sugar and processed white-flour have been made clear to you. And if you don’t know that pancakes with store bought (fake) syrup is nothing but – then now you do. If you simply can’t quit your favorite weekend morning meal, make sure the syrup is actual maple syrup, try some quinoa flour instead of that Aunt Jemima, and, that you top your stack with some real fruit.

Low Fiber Cereal

Yes, we already had the cereal talk, but let us paint this picture for you … those cereals in the supermarket are filled with nothing but chemicals and sugar in an attractive box, designed with the sole purpose of hooking in, and making your kids addicted to them. These companies are worse than the neighborhood drug dealer that hangs outside your kids school. But the kicker, given that the box says “oats” on it, is that they take away the one nutrient that should be included – fiber. And when you intake tons of sugar with no fiber, you take away your body’s ability to balance its blood sugar levels, which is why only an hour after consuming, your kids are crashed out on top of their desk.

Breakfast Bars

It appears that the marketing masters for these kid’s cereals are now running the same racket on us adults. Because those “health” bars, with healthy names such as Kasha, Kind, or Nutra-grain, encased in boringly healthy looking packages – is just the same no-nutrient crap found in those highly addictive kids cereals. Just look on the back of the package and see how there’s upwards of 20 grams of sugar in just one tiny bar. You’re best to grab a handful of nuts and get on with your day.

Muffins

Tons of sugar, butter, processed white flour, that’s all your store bought muffin is. While, we’re really not into beating a dead horse, we couldn’t leave them off the list in case you oddly thought that they were ok.
